Podgorica, Montenegro (20 May 2014) -- The Government of Montenegro adopted at today’s session the analysis of the subsidies given to employers in case they employ local labour force and concluded the measures undertaken in this area are of major importance as they directly encourage employment of persons who have difficult access to labour market, who have been unemployed for an extended period of time and who have fewer skills than the labour market requires. The government pledged to further boost active labour market policy, which should be aimed at those individuals who the most need help in employment, but to continue to be incentive for employers as well.

The Cabinet also adopted the analysis of the active seasonal labour market. In 2013, 10.542 workers were employed in seasonal jobs, mostly in tourism and hospitality industry, trade and agriculture. The Government emphasised that well designed and implemented activities in 2013 resulted in 5.4% more seasonal employment than it was planned.

Considering the Report on the implementation of measures for introducing a single procedure for issuing residence and work permits to foreigners which was approved at the today’s session, the Government tasked the relevant ministries and institutions to implement all normative measures and spatial and human resources assumptions necessary for the introduction and implementation of a new models starting from 1 January 2015.

As part of implementing priority projects in the field of agriculture, the Cabinet approved the draft contract for the lease of agricultural land over a one-year period at the location of Grahovo (total area of over 319,000 m²), municipality of Nikšić, as well as the land of 653,228 m² at the location of Šas in the municipality of Ulcinj. The Government concluded that the evaluation of these unused resources will make a contribution to increasing domestic agricultural production as one of Montenegrin development policy’s objectives.
