Simon Sutour of French Senate: Montenegro makes notable progress towards EU accession

Podgorica, Montenegro (28 May 2014) – Montenegro's Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Igor Lukšić met earlier today with President of the Committee on European Affairs in the French Senate Simon Sutour.

Mr Sutour praised the progress Montenegro has made on the road towards EU membership and said those achievements are an indication of successful implementation of reforms in the key areas. He voiced confidence that Montenegro will continue to properly fulfill obligations arising from its European agenda.

He also reiterated the importance of building the necessary capacities and mechanisms to assume the membership obligations in the future, in which, in his and that Montenegro will have full support of France in that regard.

Deputy Prime Minister Lukšić thanked Mr Sutour for the support France provides to Montenegro in its EU accession process. He informed Mr Sutour about Montenegro’s negotiating structure, emphasising that in addition to experts from the government’s institutions, there is a significant number of representatives from the academic community and civil society.
