Prime Minister Đukanović meets Bosnia and Herzegovina’s Presidency: Two countries’ relations based on mutual respect and trust

Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina (3 June 2014) – During his official visit to Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro’s Prime Minister Milo Đukanović met with the president and members of Bosnia and Herzegovina’s Presidency – Bakir Izetbegović, Nebojša Radmanović, and Željko Komšić, with whom he discussed bilateral relations, border agreement, economic cooperation, and regional relations.

The two countries’ officials welcomed the development of political dialogue and the overall bilateral relations. They underscored the importance of the Border Agreement inked during PM Đukanović’s stay in Sarajevo, which sends a good message from the region and makes for closer cooperation in the future. It was noted at the meeting that economic cooperation should be strengthened, as well as the infrastructure connecting the two countries. They also discussed the importance of regional cooperation and regional initiatives aimed at improving the quality of life for citizens.

Bosnia and Herzegovina’s Presidency members welcomed Montenegro’s success in integration processes, and thanked Montenegro for its assistance in Bosnia’s integration endeavours. The officials particularly expressed their gratitude for the solidarity of the citizens and Government of Montenegro regarding the heavy floods that have hit Bosnia and Herzegovina recently.

Expressing his deep regret over the fact that Bosnia and Herzegovina has suffered from natural disasters, Prime Minister Đukanović said Montenegro is closely monitoring developments in the neighbourhood and aims to provide as much support as possible to the friendly country of Bosnia and Herzegovina. He also said he was very pleased that the relations between the two countries are filled with mutual respect and trust.

During his visit to Sarajevo, Prime Minister Đukanović also met with representatives of both houses of the Parliamentary Assembly. The main topics of these meetings were bilateral ties and regional cooperation. It was noted that the two countries cherish an exemplary level of cooperation, which is founded on traditional and friendly values, and extended by various projects of shared interest. The two countries’ officials mentioned transport, infrastructure, and energy as main areas for cooperation.

Towards the end of his visit, Prime Minister Đukanović met with Bosnia and Herzegovina’s Foreign Minister Zlatko Lagumdžija.
