Podgorica, Montenegro (4 June 2014) – Representatives of the US Coast Guard, who are paying a three-day visit to Montenegro, concluded at the meeting with Montenegro’s Transport Minister Ivan Brajović that the Port of Bar meets the requirements of the International Ship and Port Facility Security Code (ISPS Code).

Minister Brajović underlined that current activities are aimed at drafting the legal framework in order to upgrade the area and to regulate the commitments of the state arising from the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS Convention) and International Ship and Port Facility Security Code related to ports, international transport and ships engaged on international voyages. In that way, the safety of ships and ports in terms of security threats or events which could jeopardize the safety will be preserved, Minister Brajović stressed.

Montenegro’s officials informed the US Coast Guard representatives about the responsible attitude of the Ministry and the Port Authority towards safety of ports and implementation of the ISPS Code, having in mind that number of ship entrances into the Montenegrin ports is constantly increasing year by year, thus posing potential security threats.
