Warsaw, Poland (5 June 2014) – Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Petar Ivanović paid an official visit to Poland, where he meet with representatives of the National Veterinary Research Institute (PIWet) for talks on cooperation between the institute and the Montenegrin Ministry.

Poland will provide support to Montenegro in the area of veterinary medicine in order to prepare its institutions and laboratories for meeting the necessary requirements and food safety standards during its European integration process, Minister Ivanović noted.

Having in mind that Montenegro as a small country does not have required capacities to establish necessary laboratories and to preform requisite analyses, the meeting discussed the terms of the partnership which would enable Montenegro to use the Polish laboratory’s services in the coming period, Deputy Agriculture Minister Danijela Stolica highlighted. Poland Institute has offered training courses for Montenegrin veterinary professionals officials and students, she added.

Montenegro and Poland will boost cooperation in controlling infectious animal diseases and food safety through the EU’s research programme named HORIZON 2020, as well as through other bilateral programmes, Scientific Secretary of the PIWet Mirosław Paweł Polak concluded.
