The Government of Montenegro approves amendments to the National Security Agency Law

At yesterday’s session, the Government of Montenegro approved amendments to the Law on the National Security Agency.
Measures proposed by the amendments are aimed at improving the legal framework for the Agency’s activities in relation to Montenegro’s Euro-Atlantic commitments and meeting the requirements for joining NATO Alliance.
The implementation of this law will enable Montenegro to reach one of the key strategic security goals particularly referring to the legal harmonisation of national security with the constitutional provisions, international legal norms and accepted international obligations, the meeting underlined.
The Law prescribes standards for using resources, collecting data and procedures for collecting the secret data, as well as precise conditions for international exchange of data and specificities related to the organisation of the National Security Agency as a state authority sui generis.
The Government stated that this Law will provide normative presumptions for further modernisation of the Agency according to the NATO standards, in order to confront the modern security challenges, risks and threats of transnational character effectively.
