Podgorica, Montenegro (25 June 2014) -- At today's session of the UN International Covenant on Civil and Human Rights, Ivana Jelić was elected to the Human Rights Committee with total of 119 out of 160 votes (third result among nine elected members out of 13 candidates).
Ms Jelić is Montenegro's first independent representative to an UN treaty body after restoring independence and also the first representative from the region to the Committee over the 30-year period.
The result constitutes a remarkable achievement for Montenegro, which confirms its position within the UN system and recognises Ms Jelić’s academic and practical results in promoting and safeguarding human rights.
