Statement by National Coordinator for NATO Nebojša Kaluđerović
Podgorica, Montenegro (25 June 2014) – The agreement reached at today's meeting of NATO foreign ministers in Brussels on opening intensified and focused talks with Montenegro, as well as their decision to assess Montenegro's membership prospects at the latest by the end of 2015 is an expression of full support for Montenegro and a recognition for the efforts and progress it has made to date, National Coordinator for NATO Nebojša Kaluđerović underlined in his statement.
This also means that the formalisation of Montenegro's membership will not wait for the next summit, which is a recognition Montenegro deserves in these complex international environment.
The statement made by NATO Secretary-General Rasmussen following today 's meeting in Brussels is another confirmation of the dynamics of the final accession stage, that is, the process, which, although being different from those of the previous enlargement wave, fully aligns with the projections Montenegro has made within its NATO membership policy, the National Coordinator for NATO stated.
