The Associated Press Agency in its text published on 5th July 2014 under the title “NATO signals no new members for the present” reported, inter alia, that the reason for delaying invitation to Montenegro to access the Alliance was “the reported penetration of Montenegro’s intelligence service by the Russians”, with quotes of an anonymous NATO official that “it was the sticking point” and that “the number of Montenegrin intelligence agents with links to Russia ranges between 25 and 50”, as well as that “steps are already under way to neutralize their activities, but it will take some time to manage”.
On this occasion, ANB reminds that the so far implemented reforms were realized with full cooperation and support of NATO partners, as well as the intensive communication with the most relevant instances of the Alliance.
During the process, priority dedicated to reaching the standards necessary for an adequate level of compatibility with the NATO member countries Services, there have been simultaneously carried out the activities in the field of strengthening the internal control capacities, as well as the institutional and parliamentary oversight over the Agency’s work.
ANB will consistently continue with implementation of reforms defined by the national documents, through further partner cooperation in accordance with the strategic goal of Montenegro – integration into NATO and EU.
