Prime Minister Đukanović: No Russian intelligence officers in Montenegro

Podgorica, Montenegro (8 July 2014) – Montenegro’s Prime Minister Milo Đukanović commented earlier today the assessment made by the Associated Press about the penetration of Montenegro's intelligence service by the Russians.
“I guess I would have heard such an assessment during my negotiations with NATO key stakeholders if it had been true. Therefore, I want to assure Montenegro’s public there had been no indications of the presence of at least one person with links to Russia who jeopardise the security standards Montenegro must introduce in order to join the alliance,” the Prime Minister told the press.
He also reiterated that Montenegro has developed a solid track record on its path towards Euro-Atlantic accession.
“I heard words of satisfaction at the NAC meeting in Brussels and during my visit to Washington. Also, the position of the Ministerial Meeting of 25 June that Montenegro, after another year of proving results in this area, is likely to become a full-fledged member of NATO without waiting for the next summit, speaks in favour of my opinion,“ Mr Đukanović concluded.
