Montenegro does not choose to align itself military with a single side, PM Đukannović says
Podgorica, Montenegro (24 July 2014) -- Montenegro clearly defined its foreign policy priorities after the restoration of independence and there are different opinions on the issue, Prime Minister Milo Đukanović said yesterday in the Parliament of Montenegro, adding he cannot agree on the notion that Montenegro has chosen to align itself military with a single side.
"I think it is about a unilateral political outlook of our strategic foreign policy priorities, the EU and NATO membership. We can only talk about an alignment in terms of the system of values the EU and NATO are based on, which is the same basis on which we have built modern Montenegrin state and society," the Prime Minister explained.
He said that Montenegro will continue to follow its course of integration, stressing it would be fatal to remain on the margins of European politics.
According to Prime Minister Đukanović, Montenegro has been set aside from all other NATO candidate countries.
"The decision of the Ministerial Council is an encouragement to continue to fulfill the NATO requirements. The process is expected to begin in late October and will last for a year. At the summit in Wales, we expect a positive confirmation of the progress achieved and a message which will recommend us for the membership," Montenegro’s Prime Minister concluded.
