OSCE to continue supporting Montenegro's judicial reform, strengthening rule of law

Podgorica, Montenegro (28 July 2014) -- OSCE Mission to Montenegro will continue providing project support to the Government of Montenegro and the Justice Ministry in the area of judicial reform and strengthening the rule of law, OSCE Ambassador to Montenegro Janina Hrebickova told Montenegro’s Deputy Prime Minister and Justice Minister Duško Marković.
DPM Marković thanked the OSCE Mission for the support provided to the Justice Ministry in conducting legislative activities and strengthening capacity of the judiciary, referring in particular to remarkable cooperation results achieved in introducing the institution of bailiff into Montenegro’s legal system.
The meeting also addresses the OSCE project in the field of media freedom, further development of public relations services in institutions and law enforcement agencies, as well as further development of media professionalism, scheduled for fall 2014, which came as a result of a series of consultative meetings the OSCE has had with representatives of the Government, the Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of the Interior, the Supreme State Prosecutor’s Office, the Supreme Court and the Police Authority, as well as media representatives in Montenegro.
Ambassador Hrebickova thanked the Deputy Prime Minister for the assistance and support in the initial stages of developing the project in terms of intensive trainings of personnel in law enforcement’s institutions and media representatives, which will place special emphasis on the public's right to know and the obligation of those who report in the areas of media ethics, protection of personal data and the right to privacy.
