Second Regent hotel in Europe opened in Porto Montenegro
Tivat, Montenegro (28 August 2014) -- Prime Minister Milo Đukanović delivered a speech at a ceremony marking the opening of the Regent Porto Montenegro, Regent Hotels & Resorts' second property in Europe and the first five-star hotel in Tivat.
"I want to share with you the pleasure of opening the Regent Hotel in Porto Montenegro and announce a new phase of the hotel industry development in Montenegro," Prime Minister Đukanović stated. He added that "Porto Montenegro is not only the beginning of nautical tourism in Montenegro or the most beautiful destinations for mega yachts in the Mediterranean, it is much more than that - a new standard for Montenegro."
At the opening ceremony, speeches were also delivered by main investor of the "Porto Montenegro" project Peter Munk, member of the Board of Directors of the Regent Group Steven Pan, British banker and one of the financiers of the Porto Montenegro project Lord Rothschild, and Canadian Ambassador to Montenegro Roman Waschuk.
Looking back at the time when the construction of Porto Montenegro began, the main investor of this grandiose project Peter Munk said:
"We developed here a new industry, the yachting industry, which is active throughout the year, which will reduce the seasonality of the tourism industry and because of that we will be able to fill our hotel with guests and that will be a trigger for the construction of three or four new hotels."
The construction of the impressive hotel building, built in the spirit of the Mediterranean, was worth more than EUR 55 million. Luxury building, covering an area of about 20,000 square meters, has been made by the ideas of the Design Studio "ReardonSmith Architects". It offers 51 spacious and well-equipped rooms with a view of the Bay of Kotor and the mountains, and 35 suites and residences.
With a range of luxury venues, guests have access to cafes, exclusive restaurants with outside terraces by the sea, 20-meter long outdoor pool, salon for receptions and weddings, and a spa.
