PM Đukanović attends meeting of NATO member states ambassadors: Full support for Montenegro's NATO bid

Podgorica, Montenegro (1 September 2014) – Prime Minister Milo Đukanović attended earlier today the meeting of NATO member states ambassadors to Montenegro to discuss conclusions of the Summit in Cardiff and further Montenegro steps towards NATO accession. The meeting was organised by the Embassy of Slovenia in Montenegro.

The Prime Minister reiterated the Governments’ commitment to Euro-Atlantic accession process, having in mind that NATO membership is the main foreign policy goal of Montenegro. He underlined that messages from the NATO Summit were clear, positive and encouraging for Montenegro, which confirms NATO’s commitment to the open door policy.

NATO's decision to launch an intensified and focused dialogue with Montenegro testifies to the progress Montenegro has achieved so far and also the opportunity to strengthen and improve capacities which will recommend the country to get the membership invitation by the end of 2015, PM Đukanović emphasised.

PM Đukanović informed the ambassadors about reform activities which will be implemented in the key areas within the mechanism of an intensified and focused dialogue. These activities are set out in the Fifth Annual National Programme which will be presented at the North Atlantic meeting in later October, he added.

Ambassadors of NATO member states commended the progess Montenegro has made and pledged their support to Montenegro’s Euro-Atlantic path.
