PM Đukanović meets representatives of US Congress: NATO membership best guarantee for Western Balkan's stability
Podgorica, Montenegro (9 October 2014) – NATO membership is the best guarantee for long-term stability in the Western Balkans, the meeting between Prime Minister Milo Đukanović and US Congressmen Michel Turner stressed on Wednesday.
PM Đukanović thanked the US Congress for the continued support to Montenegro and the entire region in meeting strategic goals – full-fledged membership in the NATO and EU. He particularly thanked Congressman Turner for initiating the establishment of Montenegro's Caucus in the US Congress and advocating the NATO open door policy for the Western Balkans.
PM Đukanović highlighted that Montenegro will continue promoting Euro-Atlantic values in the Western Balkans, having in mind that NATO integration is another name for stability and prosperity of the region. In that regard, he reiterated his satisfaction with conclusions from the recently held NATO Summit in Cardiff in terms of recognising Montenegro's progress, which creates possibility for Montenegro to receive an invitation for membership between the two summits.
Congressman Turner commended Montenegro's progress, particularly in the rule of law and security sector, with a particular emphasis on the strengthening of the public support, as one of the key components of Euro-Atlantic accession process.
