Demarcation and identification of state border between Montenegro and Bosnia and Herzegovina completed

Podgorica, Montenegro (15 October 2014) – Demarcation and identification of the state border between Montenegro and Bosnia and Herzegovina has been completed, and the treaty on the state border will be signed soon, the press release from Montenegro's Ministry of the Interior announced yesterday.

The treaty will be of the high importance for both states, particularly having in mind that it will be the first contract signed between the two ex-Yugoslavia countries aimed at solving this issue.

Negotiations on delimitation, marking the state border and preparations for signing the international treaty on the state border between Montenegro and Bosnia Herzegovina commenced in October 2008 and was completed in May 2014.

The Government of Montenegro adopted the report on conducting negotiation process and preparations for signing the treaty on the state border in June 2014 and approved the contract proposal which finalised the internal legal procedures required for the signing of the treaty.

Boarder commission of Montenegro and Bosnia and Herzegovina will establish the joint working body in charged of marking the state border on the field.

During the negotiations on demarcation, the two commissions used the data from the cadastre of the two states on previous administrative borders, which become the state borders after Montenegro and Bosnia and Herzegovina regained their independence, the press release concluded.
