Peter Beyer of Bundestag: Montenegro makes significant progress in strengthening rule of law, judiciary reform

Podgorica, Montenegro (20 October 2014) – Montenegro has made significant and visible results in attainig its foreign policy goals – EU and NATO membership, particularly when it comes to the judiciary reform and strengthening the rule of law, member of the Bundestag’s Committee on International Relations and the Committee’s Rapporteur on Montenegro Peter Beyer emphasised during his meeting with Montenegro's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Justice Duško Marković.

DPM Marković thanked Mr Beyer for German's continued partnership and support, particularly in raising the country's overall development. He also informed him about the current activities related to the chapters 23 and 24 and legal procedure for adopting laws, with a particular emphasis on the Law on State Prosecutor’s Office and the Law on Prevention of Corruption.

DPM Marković also informed Mr Beyer about the criteria prescribed for the appointment of new and promotion of already appointed judges and prosecutors, adding that the unique list at the national level will form a basis for all future appointments of judges and prosecutors.

The meeting also discussed strengthening the efficiency and responsibility of the judiciary, the Law on Financing of Political Parties and the Law on Lobbying.
