General Bartels of NATO: Montenegro continues making progress towards Euro-Atlantic structures
Podgorica, Montenegro (28 October 2014) -- Montenegro has made constant progress towards Euro-Atlantic integration, particularly in the defence sector, and the Alliance is willing to continue providing support to the country in order to become a NATO memberv state, Chairman of the NATO Military Committee Knud Bartels emphasised at the meeting with Prime Minister Milo Đukanović in Podgorica on Monday.
PM Đukanović underlined that the visit of the Military Committee's delegation confirms very good cooperation and creates new incentives for the country’s NATO bid. In that regard, he reiterated the country’s commitment to joing NATO, particularly after the positive assessments made at the NATO’s Summit in Cardiff.
Euro-Atlantic accession guarantees security and stability of the entire region, PM Đukanović emphasised, adding that Montenegro has an active role in promoting European values which form the basis for further development of the Western Balkans.
The two officials discussed security situation in the region, stressing that Euro – Atlantic path is the best framework for the prosperity and stability of the Western Balkans.
