Montenegro's third LGBT pride parade passes off without single incident
Podgorica, Montenegro (3 November 2014) – Montenegro's third LGBT pride parade, organised yesterday in Podgorica by the LGBTIQ association Queer Montenegro, passed off without any disturbance of public peace and order.
The parade with around 100 participants, including the governmet's representatives, mayor of Podgorica, representaives of political parties, diplpmatic corps and civil sector, took the route from the hotel Hilton Crna Gora to the old government’s building.
The parade's participants were guarded by more than 1 800 police officers, who detained several persons possessing masks, metal bars and Molotov cocktails, suspected of intending to attack the participants.
Montenegro’s Interior Minister Raško Konjević commended the police for having exercised its constitutional responsibility professionally, as well as the citizens of Podgorica who showed willingness to respect right to express different orientation.
“Montenegro has to accept all its difference in a spirit of tolerance trying to use them in a way that will be acceptable to all its citizens,” the Interior Minister’s stressed in his statement.
The next parade is scheduled for October 2015.
