DPM Marković ends his visit to London: UK stays credible partner of Montenegro in pursuing its foreign policy goals

London, the United Kingdom (12 November 2014) – The United Kingdom stays a credible partner of Montenegro in pursuing its foreign policy goals – EU and NATO membership, the meeting between Montenegro’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Justice Duško Marković and senior UK’s officials emphasised.

The officials agreed that bilateral cooperation will be improved through joint cooperation within different teams at operative and programme levels, stressing that Memorandum on cooperation, signed the day before, is aimed at boosting relations between the two countries.

During his visit, DPM Marković met with Attorney General at the UK Supreme Court Jeremy Wright who belongs to the executive power and, as a Cabinet Minister, is directly responsible to the Prime Minister and the Parliament.

DPM Marković informed Mr Wright about key aspects of legislative and institutional reform process in Montenegro aimed at strengthening results in the fight against organised crime and corruption. He also thanked him for the UK's continued support for strengthening the rule of law and judiciary reform process in Montenegro.

DMP Marković also met in London with Minister for Europe at British Foreign Office David Lidington for talks on Montenegro’s progress towards European and Euro – Atlantic accession process. The two officials agreed that Montenegro has to make additional efforts in order to tackle the upcoming challenges more efficiently and to boost cooperation with its key European partners, particularly the United Kingdom.

When it comes to the NATO accession process, DPM Marković announced that he will attend the coming North – Atlantic Council meeting, as a part of the focused and intensified dialogue between Montenegro and NATO.
