Tourism Minister Gvozdenović: Montenegro and Croatia to boost cooperation in environmental protection

Zagreb, Croatia (11 November 2014) – Montenegro is fully committed to protecting the environment, improving and expanding the system of protected natural resources and respecting and implementing the international standards in this area, Tourism Minister Branimir Gvozdenović emphasised during his visit to Croatia.

Minister Gvozdenović and his Croat counterpart Mihael Zmajlović signed the Agreement on cooperation environmental protection. The agreement will boost the implementation of good practices and exchange of experiences from the region, the two officials agreed.

Minister Zmajlović underlined that Croatia and Montenegro are well connected due to their geographical vicinity and position, adding that this agreement will ensure the joint cooperation in a more efficient manner.

The agreement binds the both states in terms of cooperation for the sea and seabed protection, coastal zone management, waste management, climate and air protection, cross border water pollution prevention and undersea traffic. According to the agreement, the two states also have to cooperate on the issues related to the environmental policy, the EU accession process, access to the information within the environment protection, education in this area and cooperation within the joint projects.

The two officials agreed that the agreement will contribute to the implementation of the concrete projects aimed at protecting the environment, particularly when it comes to the use of the EU and international funds.
