Podgorica, Montenegro (13 November 2014) – The Netherlands strongly supports Montenegro's path towards European and Euro – Atlantic accession, particularly when it comes to the political will and the Government's efforts in meeting these strategic goals, Ambassador of the Netherlands to Serbia and Montenegro Laurent Lous Stokvis emphasised at today's meeting with Prime Minister Milo Đukanović.

Ambassador Stokvis commended Montenegro's progress in the rule of law and judiciary system, adding that the Netherlands is willing to continue providing support to Montenegro in overcoming all the challenges, including meeting Europeans standards related to the media and civil society.

He also commended the Government’s efforts towards improving civil and minority rights, particularly referring to the rights and status of the LGBT population.

PM Đukanović informed Ambassador Stokvis about the activities and plans related to the implementation of the requirements from the EU and NATO agenda, voicing his belief the Netherlands and Montenegro will continue cherishing economic and overall bilateral relations.

Having in mind that Montenegro is recognised as a significant investment destination in Europe, the two officials agreed that long–term presence of the Dutch company Damen in Montenegro will boost economic cooperation. In that regard, the officials concluded the two countries should strengthen their business communities and maintain political contacts at all levels.
