EU Commissioner Johannes Hahn: EU and Montenegro will continue cherishing dynamic cooperation

Brussels, Belgium (12 November 2014) – Dynamic cooperation between the EU and the candidate countries will be continued during the current mandate of the European Commission, Commissioner for European Neighbourhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations Johannes Hahn stressed at the meeting with Montenegro's Interior Minister Raško Konjević earlier today.

Minister Konjević informed Mr Hannes about the implementation of the activities related to the EU accession process, referring particularly to the requirements arising from the negotiation Chapter 24 – Justice, freedom and security, which is being coordinated by the Ministry of the Interior. He also informed Commissioner Hannes about the measures to be implemented by the end of this year, adding that Montenegrin institutions will continue meeting the the negotiation process requirements.

Commissioner Hannes commended Montenegro’s activities within the rule of law, as a key element for the successful continuation of the accession process, adding that the enlargement policy will remain one of the key priorities of the EU.

The two officials agreed that Montenegro has to improve the infrastructure system and make additional efforts in the rule of law, as a precondition for the investments and strengthening of the country's economy.
