Cooperation in Mediterranean region crucial for energy safety, market competitiveness and new jobs creation

Rome, Italy (19 November 2014) – Montenegro's Economy Minister Vladimir Kavarić took part in the Rome's conference which discussed energy issues, dialogue and cooperation in the Mediterranean region, as the key priorities for maintenance of the energy safety, market competitiveness and creating new jobs.

In his address, Minister Kavarić stressed that turning the Mediterranean countries into the regional gas hub is crucial for improving the electrical network and making them a part of the regional and European energy market.

On the sidelines of the conference, Minister Kavarić met with Italian Minister of Economic Development Federica Guidi for talks on the perspective of the Montenegrin Electric Enterprise (EPCG) and cooperation with the Italian company A2A.

The officials agreed the Montenegrin Electric Enterprise should be an efficient and profitable company with enough capacity to invest in energy projects in Montenegro. They also discussed current energy projects with a particular emphasis on the construction of the undersea energy cable between Montenegro and Italy, as a strategic project for both economies.

 Minister Kavraić also informed Minister Guidi about the investment framework in Montenegro, adding the Government is willing to continue undertaking activities aimed at improving the investment environment and creating business zones.
