Luxembourg: Montenegro to receive EUR 3.5 million for preparing the project of reconstructing Plužine –Šćepan Polje road

EU stands ready to support significantly various priority infrastructure projects in the region. This will contribute to a significant increase of investment in the region and will help create preconditions for a more intensive economic growth and development, as well as the acceleration of Western Balkans’ countries quicker integration, the 11th Western Balkans Investment Framework Managing Board meeting has concluded in Luxembourg on 9 December.

The meeting was devoted to discussing the progress of regional initiatives in the areas of transport and energy, project granting within the 11th call for projects, and the preparations for the 12th call.

On behalf of Montenegro, National IPA Coordinator Ambassador Aleksandar Andrija Pejović participated at the event.

The meeting reiterated the EU’s commitment to the development of infrastructure in the Western Balkans region. The meeting stressed the importance of adequate preparation of project documents for the top infrastructure projects which will be supported by EU funds. Within the 11th call, Montenegro received positive assessment and confirmation for the project entitled Preparing the main project and tender documents for the Plužine – Šćepan Polje road, for which the EU will allocate EUR 3.5 million. The reconstruction of this important section will contribute to an increased road safety and regional cohesion, as it will ensure a safer regional link to central Europe via the Vc corridor. The preparation of necessary documents will create the preconditions for commencing the construction of this important road, with an estimated value of EUR 70 million.

Within the 11th call, the Western Balkans Investment Framework Managing Board meeting confirmed 6 projects valued EUR 8.78 million in total.
