French Senate strongly supports Montenegro’s NATO bid

Paris, France (11 December 2014) – French Senate will be actively engaged in supporting Montenegro’s full NATO membership at the NATO’s Parliamentary Assembly, Prime Minister was told earlier today in Paris.

Emphasising the positive effects of the NATO enlargement on this part of the Mediterranean, President of the French Senate Gérard Larcher told Prime Minister Đukanović that the Senate will address a letter of support to the NATO Parliamentary Assembly declaring a strong support for Montenegro's Euro-Atlantic bid.

The meeting commended bilateral cooperation between Montenegro and France based on mutual trust and friendly relations. Having in mind economic cooperation between the two states, the officials agreed that it should be intensified, particularly when it comes to raising the level of the French investments in Montenegro. The cooperation should also be strengthened in the education area through creating opportunities for the youth to participate in the exchange programmes, the meeting underlined.

The officials also discussed the current situation in the region regarding European and Euro – Atlantic accession process of Montenegro, as a framework for the stability and prosperity of the Western Balkans.
