Podgorica, Motenegro (9 February 2015) – The United Kingdom remains strongly committed to supporting Montenegro'efforts in achieving its foreign policy objectives and it will provide all necessary assistance in meeting requirements for its NATO and EU accession, Acting Director of the Directorate for Western Balkans and Enlargement of UK Foreign Office Paul Gaskell told Montenegro’s Deputy Prime Minister and Justice Minister Duško Marković earlier today.

DPM Marković noted that the government's agenda for 2015 will be concentrated on implementing new legislative framework, which will, after it is adopted by the Parliament, enable Montenegro’s institutions, primarily those related to the rule of law and law enforcement, to achieve more tangible results and he was hopefull that these actions are to be acknowledged internationally, primarily through receiving NATO membership invitation by the end of the year.

The two officials also addressed the implementation of the Memorandum of understanding on cooperation and mutual assistance in criminal matters related to taxes and duties and similar matters, which was signed by DPM Marković and British officials in London on November 2014.

Both sides commended successful cooperation within the framework of the memorandum and they pointed out that joint actions of two administrations enable excellent political relations to be boosted by concrete activities at the operational level.
