PM Đukanović, Ambassador Uyehara: US support and partnership cooperation of paramount importance for Montenegro

Podgorica, Montenegro (24 February 2015) -- Prime Minister Milo Đukanović hosted earlier today newly appointed US Ambassadors to Montenegro Margaret Ann Uyehara and wished her success in her diplomatic mission on behalf of the United States, one of key partners of Montenegro.

He also praised high level of overall cooperation established between the two countries and traditionally friendly and partnership relations based on mutual trust.

"Montenegro shares values of a modern democratic society in the process of clearly defined national objectives," PM Đukanović noted. Stressing importance of the results Montenegro has achieved in a short period after the restoration of independence, the Prime Minister pledged his government’s commitment to overcoming challenges in the process of economic and democratic development of the society.

"US support and assistance in that regard is still of paramount importance," he underlined.

PM Đukanović reiterated that his government will focus its future activities towards NATO and EU accession, given their importance for overall prosperity of Montenegro and stability of the Western Balkan.

The newly appointed Ambassador of the United States emphasised that the main objective of her mission will be to further strengthen relations between the two states.

She also confirmed that the USA will continue to support Montenegro's NATO and EU bids and help the country overcome the challenges it faces on the way to full integration.

Prime Minister Đukanović and US Ambassador Uyehara agreed that the two countries share positive experience in bilateral cooperation and highlighted the common interest in the continuation of the overall cooperation in order to strengthen Montenegro’s administrative and educational capacities, and the rule of law.

The meeting concluded that the two countries will join their efforts in order to further enhance the partnership through cooperation related to economic development projects in Montenegro and encourage new investment from the United States.
