Podgorica, Montenegro (5 March 2015) – “We did not recognise in Mr Hollande’s statement an intention to revise this part of NATO policy, related to enlargement,” Prime Minister Milo Đukanović told the press who asked him to comment on French President Hollande’s recent statement following his meeting with NATO Secretary-General Stoltenberg.

Mr Đukanović said that a large part of his recent meeting with Mr Hollande was devoted to Montenegro’s ambition to receive a NATO invitation this year.

While expressing Montenegro fully understands geo-political developments and global politics, Prime Minister Đukanović reiterated that NATO communicated in a very responsible manner their plans at the 2014 Wales Summit, which means that the member-countries would decide by the end of 2015 whether Montenegro has met the conditions required for a membership invitation.

“Montenegro is working diligently on meeting the conditions and we are very optimistically awaiting the NATO membership invitation by the end of 2015,” Mr Đukanović told the press.
