Intensive cooperation between Montenegro and UNDP to be continued

Podgorica, Montenegro (4 March 2015) -- United Nations, through the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), plays an active role in Montenegro's reform process, as evidenced by a number of successfully projects having been implemented with the Montenegrin institutions in strengthening the rule of law and pursuing judicial reform, today's meeting between Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Justice Duško Marković and Acting UNDP Resident Representative in Montenegro Norimasa Shimomura stressed.
In that regard, the two officials referred to the joint project of introducing free legal aid in Montenegro system, which, through the work of offices for legal assistance in all Montenegrin courts, enables to all the citizens in need to have easy and efficient access to court in exercising of their rights .
Mr Shimomura said the UNDP will continue to cooperate intensively with the Ministry of Justice of Montenegro, through expert and other support related to bylaws, which derive from a set of systemic laws in the area of justice, as well as the implementation of measures from the Judicial Reform Strategy 2014-2018 and designing of the software for recording cases of the new anti-corruption agency.
DPM Marković also commended a 3-year cooperation with the UNDP in implementing a project of strengthening efficiency of the judiciary through the application of the ICT, in the partnership with the Ministry of Justice, Supreme Court, Supreme State Prosecutor's Office, Judicial Council and the Government of the Kingdom of Norway.
