Montenegro and Serbia to improve security and safety cooperation

Podgorica, Montenegro (17 March 2015) – Montenegro and Serbia are set to improve cooperation in terms of strengthening their citizens' security and safety, DPM and Minister of Justice Duško Marković emphasised at the meeting with Serbian Interior Minister Nebojša Stefanović earlier today in Podgorica.

The two officials underlined that European path and dynamics of the EU accession process are crucial for both countries, particularly when it comes to the negotiation chapters related to judiciary and fundamental rights, and justice, freedom and security. In that regard, they highlighted importance of bilateral cooperation which has to be improved through joint cooperation on cases for combating all types of organised crime and terrorism.

The meeting particularly discussed the two countries' engagement in preventing and suppressing citizens' involvement in the foreign battlefields. Serbian Interior Minister Stefanović commended Montenegro for adopting amendments to the Criminal Code in this area.

DPM Marković stressed the two states should boost economic cooperation, particularly emphasising the regional initiatives aimed at infrastructural connectedness of the Western Balkans along with the support of the EU funds
