Minister Pejanović-Đurisic: NATO important precondition for future economic development

Defence Minister Prof. Milica Pejanovic-Djurisic, PhD pays official visit to the United States of America on the occasion of the sixth bilateral consultation in the area of defence.

On the first day of the visit, the Minister met with Michele Flournoy, the Executive Director of the Center for a New American Security-CNAS. During the visit to the CNAS, a round table had been organized whereat the Minister talked about results achieved in the process of defense system reform and Montenegrin plans on its path towards the Euro-Atlantic integration. On this occasion, Pejanovic-Djurisic stressed the importance of implementing reforms for the Montenegrin society as a whole and highlighted that Montenegro membership in NATO is an important prerequisite for its future economic development as well as further stabilization of security situation in the region. Montenegro shall remain committed its further implementation of reforms, the Minister said, and expressed expectation to visualize realized results at the end of the current year to follow the invitation for the membership in NATO. In this respect, the support of the United States of America is of a particular significance, said the Minister Pejanović-Đurišić.

The Defence Minister also met with the representatives of the US Senate Committee on Foreign Relations and discussed the issues of reforms that Montenegro implements on its way to NATO membership.

On the occasion of the visit of the Minister, the Atlantic Council of the USA organized a strategic session whereat Pejanovic-Djurisic had an opportunity to familiarize the present with the results that Montenegro has been achieving in the process of Euro-Atlantic integration with a special emphasis on the evolution of intensified and focused dialogue.
