Prime Minister Đukanović to participate in meeting of heads of government of Western Balkan Six in Brussels
Podgorica, Montenegro (20 April 2015) -- Prime Minister Milo Đukanović will participate Tuesday in the meeting of heads of government of the Western Balkan Six in Brussels, at the invitation of EU Commissioner for European Neighbourhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations Johannes Hahn and Commissioner for Transport Violeta Bulc.
The Prime Minister’s participation will be an opportunity for Montenegro to reiterate its commitment to better infrastructural network that will enhance connectivity within the region and with the EU, increase competitiveness and encourage economic development and employment.
The meeting will pledge continued support for European perspective of the Western Balkan countries in order to achieve more significant progress on their path towards stability, strengthening of good neighbourly relations, and modernisation of the society and economy.
Activities in this area were started at the Kotor’s meeting of 10 July 2014, within the framework of the Stabilisation and Association Process, and continued at the meeting of regional heads of government in Berlin on 28 August 2014, under the auspices of Chancellor Angela Merkel.
The meetings recognised the need to undertake joint actions aimed at boosting regional economic cooperation and setting up a solid foundation for sustainable growth, and adopted the Final Declaration for the period 2014 - 2018. High-level meetings in Budva, New York, Pristina and Brussel concerning the same issue followed.
Tomorrow’s meeting at the headquarters of the European Commission is crucial for completing the process at the annual meeting of heads of government and senior representatives of the European Commission scheduled for August 2015 in Vienna, which will confirm the commitment and progress achieved, and finalise unique lists of priority projects expected to be implemented by 2030 and funded through EU instruments, namely the Western Balkans Investment Framework (WBIF), IPA II, etc.
On the sidelines of the meeting in Brussels, Prime Minister Đukanović will meet with representatives of the participating countries.
During his stay in Brussels, Prime Minister Đukanović will also meet with EU High Representative for Foreign and Security Policy Frederica Mogerini.
