Interior Minister Konjević: Combating terrorism requires cooperation among law inforcement agencies in Balkan

Belgrade, Serbia (30 April 2015) -- Montenegro's Interior Minister Raško Konjević participated, at the invitation of his Serbian counterpart Nebojša Stefanović, in the Belgrade's Conference on Foreign Terrorist Fighters, Preventing Radicalisation and Combating Terrorism in the Balkans region. The conference was sponsored by Ministry of the Interior of Serbia, in cooperation with diplomatic missions of the United States, European Union and OSCE.

The meeting's participants exchanged views and experience on a most pressing modern security issues and discussed opportunities for cooperation among the Balkan's countries in order to contribute to global fight against terrorism. In that context, it was pointed out that the phenomenon of foreign terrorist fighters, as one of relatively new security threats, is not impossible to tackle without dynamic, efficient and open exchange of operational information and further strengthening cooperation among law enforcement agencies in the Balkan region.

The meeting also discussed the issues of reintegration and socialisation of foreign terrorist fighters, with an emphasis on the need to effectively apply the highest professional standards in the prevention of terrorist acts as threats to peace, stability and prosperity not only in regional but also in wider European and global context.

On the sidelines of the Belgrade's conference, Minister of Konjević met with interior ministers of Serbia, Macedonia and Kosovo for exchanging views on the continuation of cooperation among law enforcement agencies in combating common threats and overcoming current security challenges.
