PR BureauMilan, Italy (22 May 2015) – Montenegro's Science Minister Sanja Vlahović was awarded earlier today in Milan the highest award of the President of Italy that can be allocated to a foreigner, the "Stella D'Italia" medal, for outstanding contribution to the promotion and preservation of Italian culture, tradition and national wealth. Minister Vlahović received the award from President of Italian National Research Council Luigi Nikolais at the ceremony which took place in Pinacoteca di Brera, the main public gallery for paintings in Milan.

The Order the Star of Italy was established in 1947 to recognise expatriates or foreigners who made an outstanding contribution to the reconstruction of Italy after World War II. In 2011, the order was reformed as the Order of the Star of Italy and was awarded for outstanding contributions of foreigners in promoting and preserving Italian culture, tradition and national wealth. The order is bestowed by decree of the President of the Republic, head of the order, on the recommendation of the Foreign Minister.
