Montenegro makes progress in institutional reform of judiciary and security structures, US Hoyt Brian Yee says

Podgorica, Montenegro (4 June 2015) -- Next few months are crucial for Euro-Atlantic aspirations of Montenegro, especially when it comes to the progress in the field of rule of law and public support for NATO integration, Montenegro's Deputy Prime Minister Duško Marković and US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Hoyt Brian Yee highlighted at today's meeting in Podgorica.

DPM Marković stressed that meeting requirements from NATO accession agenda has been significantly improved compared to 2015, given that the Montenegro government is showing strong commitment to ensuring full implementation of the already established standards.

"In the rule of law area, the Prosecutorial Council has become selection of the special prosecutor and 10 special prosecutors for the Special State Prosecutor's Office, and the completion of these procedures is expected soon. Furthermore, the campaign to raise public support for Euro-Atlantic integration has been intensified and we expect tangible progress to be made," DPM Markovic pointed out.

Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Hoyt Brian Yee congratulated Montenegro on the progress made towards Euro-Atlantic accession, referring in partucular to institutional reform of the judiciary and security structures. He stressed that the US will continue to support Montenegro's NATO bid, hopefull that Montenegro will fulfil requirements for achieving its foreign policy objectives.
