PM Đukanović talks to US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Hoyt Brian Yee

Budva, Montenegro (5 June 2015) -- On the sidelines of the To Be Secure Forum dedicated to NATO integration, Prime Minister Milo Đukanović met with US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Hoyt Brian Yee.

The United States strongly support Montenegro on its path towards membership in NATO," the US official noted and congratulated Montenegro on the progress that has been made over the past year when it comes to the process of intensified and focused dialogue with NATO. Describing the particular progress in the areas of institutional, justice, defense and security structures reforms, Mr Hoyt Yee said that the next few months are crucial for Euro-Atlantic aspirations of Montenegro.

He added that the United States will continue to support Montenegro in its efforts to further promote the rule of law and strengthen public support for Montenegro's membership in NATO.

Prime Minister Đukanović thanked Mr Hoyt Yee for the USA’s overall support and stressed that Montenegro will continue to be a reliable and responsible partner and promoter of stability and Euro-Atlantic values in the region.

"The government is committed to pursuing democratic and economic reforms in order to overcome decades of backwardness and improve the quality of life of its citizens. In that regard, the NATO integration is a guarantor of stability and prosperity of Montenegro and the Western Balkans as a whole," said Prime Minister Đukanović.

Both sides expressed a positive attitude towards the fulfillment of the remaining obligations from NATO membership agenda and agreed to continue intensive communication in a spirit of partnership and mutual trust between the two countries.
