Podgorica, Montenegro (15 June 2015) -- First major delivery of machinery for the Bar – Boljare highway’s priority part construction has arrived in the Port of Bar and will be transported to the construction site over the next two weeks. China has delivered 267 machines valued at USD 20.4 million, which will be mostly used in this phase of the highway's construction. Another two deliveries of 51 machines are expected to arrive, thus completing the required machinery and enabling the construction works to start.

Representatives of the Chinese China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC), the selected constructor for the construction of the highway’s priority section, said that camps to accommodate workers are under construction and that the first phase of hiring local labour force is coming to an end soon.

"Last week, we had a regular meeting with Montenegro's Minister of Transport and Maritime Affairs Ivan Brajović and inform him about the project’s current activities. He voiced hope that the activities related to the highway’s project implementation are to be intensified in order to start concrete work on the first parts of the highway as quickly as possible, emphasising that the investor will continue to provide maximum support to the contractor within its competence and in line with the signed contract and relevant regulations," newly appointed Chief Executive Officer of the CRBC Gao Liang underscored.

He said that the construction of the Bar-Boljare highway is a great challenge for his company, but that they are fully prepared to complete the preparatory work and start the next phase of the construction.

On the occasion of the arrival of the first large contingent of construction equipment in the Port of Bar, Montenegro’s Transport Minister Ivan Brajović voiced belief that the project will be an example of cooperation in implementing major infrastructure projects. He stressed the importance of hiring local subcontractors, which will be a powerful impetus to further economic growth and development of Montenegro, pointing out that special attention neeed to be paid to the quality of works and respect for national and international standards and codes of practice.
