Hungarian Ambassador Posa: Montenegro should continue to strengten rule of law, fight against organised crime and corruption

Podgorica, Montenegro (15 June 2015) -- Hungary will continue to strongly support Montenegro’s efforts towards obtaining an invitation for membership in NATO by the end of the year, and a key recommendation to Montenegro in this respect is to further strengthen its achievements in the field of rule of law and fight against organised crime and corruption, Hungarian Ambassador Christian Posa underscored at today’s meeting with Justice Minister Zoran Pažin.

Minister Pažin thanked Ambassador Posa for the continuous support of Hungary for Montenegro’s foreign policy goals, particularly for its additional engagement as NATO contact point embassy in Montenegro. He informed the Ambassador about current events in the field of EU integration, looking back at the establishment of institutions that are the most important line of defence when it comes to combating organised crime and corruption.

In this context, the Justice Minister said he expects Chief Special Prosecutor and a number of special prosecutors to be appointed by the end of the week. He informed Ambassador Posa about the creation of technical conditions for the functioning of the Special Public Prosecutor's Office. He also commented on the amendments to the legislative framework, which further reinforce capacities of prosecutorial authorities in criminal proceedings, at the same time taking into account the protection and promotion of human rights.

The meeting commended the active cooperation of the two justice ministries, which was established by the Memorandum of Understanding, and announced the visit of Hungarian Minister of Justice Laszlo Trocsanyi to Montenegro by the end of 2015.
