Inviting Montenegro to join NATO - positive signal for stability of entire region, Czech Prime Minister Sobotka notes
Prague, Czech Republic (2 July 2015) -- Prime Minister of Montenegro Milo Đukanović began earlier today an official visit to Prague by meeting his Czech counterpart Bohuslav Sobotka.
Czech Republic will support Montenegro’s efforts towards obtaining invitation to join NATO in 2015, Czech Prime Minister Sobotka underlined at the meeting with Prime Minister Đukanović. He said that the Czech Republic expects Montenegro to be the first next NATO member state and that inviting the country to join the Alliance would be a positive signal for boosting stability of the entire region. At the same time, the Czech Prime Minister noted that Montenegro can count on Czech Republic’s expert support for its NATO bid.
The two heads of government agreed that Montenegro and the Czech Republic have established excellent relations, dynamic political dialogue and cooperation. Noting that Montenegro is an important partner of the Czech Republic in the region, an emphasis was placed on further development of economic relations in the light of the decision of the tender commission for the selection of partners for the construction of the Block II of the Thermal Power Plant Pljevlja, in which the Czech Skoda Praha is ranked first.
The two officials also discussed possibilities of strengthening cooperation in the field of tourism.
