OSCE’s Dunja Mijatović: Montenegro's government promotes professional, responsible and objective journalism
Podgorica, Montenegro (6 July 2015) – Prime Minister Milo Đukanović met earlier today with Dunja Mijatović, the OSCE Representative on the Freedom of the Media, for talks on the current situation regarding the freedom of the media in the country.
The two officials agreed that the cooperation between the OSCE and Montenegro is based on mutual trust and common objectives, particularly when it comes to improving the freedom of the media, raising professional standards in journalism and strengthening self – regulations.
PM Đukanović thanked Ms Dunja Mijatović for her personal support in drafting the Code of Ethics in the media, stressing the need of its adoption and implementation.
“Montenegro seeks being a society of the high democratic standards, in which the media play a very significant role”, PM Đukanović underlined. Strengthening professional values, knowledge and competence is in the interest of both the country and the OSCE, he added.
OSCE’s Dunja Mijatović commended the Government’s commitment and efforts aimed at affirming professional, responsible and objective journalism.
The meeting also highlighted the need to enhance cooperation and active engagement in improving the media environment and strengthening self – regulatory mechanisms in order to increase the level of media professionalism.
