Science Minister Vlahović attends IAEA’s 59th General Conference
Vienna, Austria (15 September 2015) – Montenegro's Science Minister Sanja Vlahović delivered a speech at the International Atomic Energy Agency’s (IAEA) 59th General Conference, which takes place in Vienna on 14-18 September.
Minister Vlahović presented Montenegro's activities having been implemented in cooperation with the IAEA, particularly emphasising the Agency’s donation of digital mammography with additional equipment aimed at preventing cancer among women in a more efficient and qualitative manner. In that regard, Minister Vlahović addressed national priorities when it comes to joint cooperation between the state and the Agency, with a particular emphasis on three projects planned for the coming period.
In her speech, Minister Vlahović also listed the activities having been implemented in the area of environmental protection and the projects aimed at improving the security system in line with the IAEA’s priorities. She said that Montenegro welcomes the EU’s attitude presented at the plenary session, which proves Montenegro’s commitment to pursuing its European path.
The general conference will discuss internal issues related to the functioning of the Agency, appointment of the Board of Governors' members, measures for strengthening international cooperation in the field of nuclear safety and security, radiation and transport safety, as well as radioactive waste management
