Yerevan: Memorandum on partnership between Montenegro and the International Organisation of La Francophonie

State Secretary for European Integration and Chief Negotiator for Montenegro's Accession to EU Ambassador Aleksandar Andrija Pejović signed today in Yerevan, Armenia, on behalf of the Government of Montenegro, a Memorandum on partnership between Montenegro and the International Organisation of La Francophonie.

The signing of the Memorandum will enable for three years of programmes of learning French for civil servants whose tasks involve international cooperation. It also envisages training programmes and learning about the work of European institution, as well as current international affairs topics. Particular importance of this partnership comes from the fact that it encourages and promotes respect for multilingualism and cultural diversity. Through this programme, Montenegro will get additionally closer to its objective of EU membership and it will encourage multilingualism and human resources’ capacities for future obligations arising from Union membership.

During the visit, Ambassador Pejović participated at the Ministerial Conference of La Francophonie which gathered representatives of member-States and observers to the organisation.

The event was an opportunity to exchange opinions and discuss further developmnets of La Francophonie as an area of peace, tolerance, dialogue, and genocide prevention. The meeting also discussed the challenges arising from climate change.

In addressing the event, Ambassador Pejović gave an overview on developments in Montenegro and underlined that over the past few years Montenegro has stepped up reforms with the view to reaching the ideal we strive for – establishing an open, democratic, and inclusive society. He underlined that in this regard we adopted solutions inspired by European regulations, ensured their consistent implementation, and launched the process of developing institutions and administrative solutions, with a special emphasis on the rule of law.

In this context, he noted that particular attention was devoted to improving the education system, promoting multilingualism and an approach to education that stimulates individuality and personal identity, broadening of horizons, free thinking, tolerance, and accepting differences.

When it comes to climate change, Ambassador Pejović informed the participants about the key documents Montenegro has adopted in this area, such as Strategy on Climate Change and National Plan for Renewable Energy Resources until 2020, which additionally confirm our commitment to this topic.

Fully aware of our responsibility and the need to protect the planet, Montenegro will, in addition to signing all relevant agreements in this area, continue giving its full contribution to all initiatives devoted to this issue, Ambassador Pejović has said at the event.
