NATO’s North Atlantic Council and SG Stoltenberg to visit Montenegro on 14-15 October 2015

Podgorica, Montenegro (13 October 2015) – The North Atlantic Council (NAC), NATO’s principal political decision-making body, headed by Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg, will pay its first official visit to Montenegro on 14-15 October 2015.

Ambassadors from all 28 NATO member states will hold a joint session of the council with top Montenegrin officials and representatives of the parliamentary parties. Following the bilateral meeting, Prime Minister Milo Đukanović and NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg will hold a joint press conference.

The North Atlantic Council’s visit to Montenegro ahead of the December NATO foreign ministers’ meeting will be an opportunity to inform the highest representatives of the Alliance about Montenegro’s achievements in the key reform areas, with emphasis on the rule of law and public support. The visit is of paramount importance in the context of the forthcoming decision on extending a NATO membership invitation to Montenegro.
