Hungarian PM Viktor Orban to Đukanović: NATO invitation would be a reward for your efforts and activities in pursuing Alliance membership

Sozhou, China (24 November 2015) – Prime Minister Milo Đukanović met with his Hungarian counterpart Viktor Orban for talks on bilateral cooperation and Montenegro’s Euro-Atlantic accession process.

PM Đukanović thanked Mr Orban for Hungary’s continuing support to Montenegro and the region, informing him about the country’s progress within the Euro-Atlantic and European accession processes. Hungary took part in the country’s progress made so far as the contact-country for NATO, PM Đukanović stressed, adding that the two countries cherish comprehensive and fruitful bilateral cooperation.

PM Orban said that Hungary supports Montenegro’s and Western Balkans’ integration process, stressing that Europe needs that kind of leaders. “Montenegro’s modern history is related to your name,” PM Orban said to PM Đukanović, stressing that NATO invitation would be a reward for PM Đukanović’s work and efforts made so far. Hungary wants more Western Balkan countries within European and Euro-Atlantic structures because it is in a shared interest, Hungarian PM Orban pointed out.

The two officials agreed that the Inter-State Commission for Coordination and Development of Economic and Overall Cooperation, as well as the 16+1 Mechanism and the Berlin Process contribute to the strengthening of regional and bilateral cooperation between the member countries.

Hungarian PM Orban voiced his regrets for postponing his visit to Montenegro, stressing his willingness to pay an official visit to the country in the coming period.
