Podgorica, Montenegro (24 November 2015) – Deputy Prime Minister Duško Marković hosted earlier today the newly appointed Ambassador of Slovenia to Montenegro Mitja Močnik.

DPM Marković congratulated Mr Močnik on assuming the office, stressing that Montenegro and Slovenia cherish traditionally good relations. He also voiced the Government’s gratitude for Slovenia’s overall support and partnership, particularly when it comes to achieving its foreign policy priorities.

Ambassador Močnik reiterated Slovenia’s willingness to support Montenegro in pursuing its Euro-Atlantic path, emphasising the need for boosting economic cooperation. Furthermore, he stressed that the two countries should conduct dialogue in terms of improving economic cooperation and boosting investments in Montenegro through various joint projects. Slovenia will continue providing support for Montenegro’s development in the coming three year period, Ambassador Močnik pointed out.

The two officials agreed that Montenegro has successfully met all the requirements within its path towards NATO membership, underlining that Montenegro’s expectations for getting a NATO invitation by the end of this year are realistic.
The meeting also discussed the current challenges for both states, particularly when it comes to growing terrorist threats and the migrant crisis.
