Statement by Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration of Montenegro

Podgorica, Montenegro (16 December 2015) -- Regarding the statement by Spokesperson of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova published by the Russian TASS news agency that Montenegro should hold a referendum on joining NATO, we wish to state the following:

The Montenegrin institutions, primarily the Parliament, takes a decision on the manner of deciding upon the confirmation of full-fledged membership in NATO, and it is not up to third parties to give opinions on how the institutions should take a stand on domestic issues.
