Inaugural session of Honorary committee for celebration of 10 years of Montenegro’s independence

Podgorica, Montenegro (15 February 2016) -- Honorary Committee for the Celebration of the Tenth Anniversary of Montenegro’s Independence held its inaugural session earlier today, chaired by Chairman of the Committee and Prime Minister Milo Đukanović.

The committee established a programme of activities to mark this important jubilee, which will take place throughout the year under the motto "Long live Montenegro," which symbolises the first decade of the restoration of independence and a thousand years of the country’s statehood.

It was agreed on a consensual basis that the programme should valorise the 2006 historic achievement, notable results made over the past ten years, as well as the strategic vision of modern Montenegro. Special emphasis will be placed on multiethnic and multicultural Montenegrin society, connection between the home land and the Diaspora, the stratification of the celebration through the local communities, numerous associations, institutions and bodies up to the highest state level, as well as the involvement of the general public in all events relating to the great jubilee. The outcome of the referendum of 21 May 2006 is the common good and a lasting value of all the citizens of Montenegro, the anniversary committee underscored.

The Steering Committee, chaired by the Prime Minister's Chief Political Advisor Milan Roćen, and the creative team, headed by Rector of the University of Montenegro Radmila Vojvodić, will take charge of undertaking the programme activities.

The first step will be the establishment of the visual identity of the jubilee, which will be an integral part of all the activities.
