PM Đukanović, Ambassador Takahara: Montenegro and Japan set to boost cooperation

Podgorica, Montenegro (9 March 2016) -- Prime Minister Milo Đukanović hosted earlier today Ambassador of Japan Juichi Takahara and expressed satisfaction with the level of overall cooperation between the two countries, as well readiness for its further improvement, especially in economic terms.

Mr Đukanović thanked the Government of Japan for the significant development assistance, including grants and support for the private sector development provided through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) programmes. The Prime Minister expressed the Government’s interest in establishing cooperation concerning environmental protection, science and education, given the Japanese know-how in these areas.

Ambassador Takahara assessed the relations between the two countries as traditionally good and friendly, both at bilateral and multilateral levels. In order to mark the 10th anniversary of Montenegro’s independence and establishment of diplomatic relations with Japan, Mr Takahara announced a series of cultural activities during the year and full support for the advancement of political contacts. He also welcomed Montenegro’s progress and commitment to European and Euro-Atlantic integration, as an important contribution to strenghtening peace and stability in the region.
