Podgorica, Montenegro (4 May 2016) -- Prime Minister Milo Đukanović hosted earlier today non-resident Ambassador of the Kingdom of Netherlands to Montenegro Hendrik van den Dool.

The Prime Minister thanked Ambassador van den Dool for the support the Dutch Government provides to Montenegro in the process of European and Euro-Atlantic integration, inter alia, through various bilateral development projects in the fields of the rule of law and promotion of minority rights. At the same time, Mr Đukanović expressed interest in further strengthening of bilateral political and economic relations, in line with Montenegrin strategic internal and foreign policy development priorities.

The two officials agreed it is necessary to invest additional efforts in the promotion of Montenegro as an attractive investment destination, especially when it comes to healthy food production, tourism and energy. Both sides voiced their readiness to intensify the existing and establish new contacts in that regard.

Ambassador van den Dool congratulated the Government and the Prime Minister personally on receiving NATO invitation and pointed out that the Netherlands will cooperate with Montenegro as a future member of the Alliance. He also said that Montenegro is a leader and an example to others in the region when it comes to the accession negotiations with the EU. Recognising the progress achieved so far, Mr Van den Dool is hopeful that, during the current Dutch presidency of the EU, Montenegro will successfully continue with the same dynamics of opening negotiating chapters.
